Kentucky's own Ben Sollee is making a heartfelt return to music with his new single, "One More Day." from his forthcoming album, Long Haul. This release marks Sollee's first solo studio effort in seven years and promises to offer both solace and inspiration for anyone grappling with mental health challenges.

The track "One More Day" is a deeply personal piece dedicate to Sollee's late friend and musical collaborator, Jordan Ellis, who tragically ended his life earlier this year. Solle explains, "The song is intended to be a tiny anthem for anyone struggling with depression to ‘give it one more day.’ The rhythm and energy is inspired by our many jams on and off stage.” The single embodies Sollee’s commitment to providing a glimmer of hope and resilience for those in need.

Set to release on August 16 via sonaBlast! Recordings, Long Haul is a testament to Sollee's journey through personal and health-related challenges. The album title reflect Sollee's battle with long COVID, which left him grappling with severe fatigue, cognitive impairment, and a deep sense of anxiety and depression. Through a combination of dietary changes and exercise, Sollee managed to overcome these debilitating symptoms, finding new strength and clarity in the process.

Sollee's reflections on the album reveal a profound transformation: “I believe there is an innate intelligence within us that can serve as a compass in life… Just like music, you need to tune yourself to the frequency of that inner-voice. In many ways, long-COVID was my teacher and I’m still learning to let go, be present, and listen.” The album is an exploration of vulnerability and growth, drawing on diverse influences from Appalachia to Polynesia and West Africa, blending seamlessly with Sollee’s signature cello and vocals.

Long Haul is crafted with a sense of humanity and intimacy, embracing a mantra of "show our fingerprints." This approach, inspired by Kevin Roose's book Futureproof, guided Sollee in creating an album that feels tactile and deeply personal. The use of breathy woodwinds, choirs, and hand percussion, alongside Sollee's cello, enhances the album's warm, organic sound. Notably, Sollee has also recorded a special Dolby ATMOS Spatial Audio version of the album, marking a first in his career.

Despite the length gap between solo albums, Ben Sollee has remained active and influential. He has been involved in scoring films such as LAND, directed by Robin Wright and Maggie Moore(s), featuring Tina Fey and Jon Hamm. Additionally, Sollee provided music for the Peabody-nominated podcast Unreformed. His commitment to social and environmental advocacy through his non-profit organization, Canopy, and past Ditch The Van Tours further highlights his multifaceted career.

To celebrate the release of Long Haul, Sollee will embark on a U.S. tour, bringing his evocative music and inspiring message to audiences across the country.
