Huskies

With their recent single "Huskies," Cigarettes is redefining the domain of the indie music scene. The band formed in 2021 with five members; Garrett, Sarah, Ethan, Ryland, and Wells. The five are best friends from Boone, North Carolina. The inspiration for their song "Huskies" is “Garrett found love,” Wells said. It’s the opposite of the track "Jaw Song" from their discography. One thing that makes this song so unique is that it’s softer than some of the other tracks they have put out in the past. The message the band wants to convey with this song is, “wanting to cherish and protect a relationship that makes you feel vulnerable in the best ways,” Garret explains. The band has an inside joke about the song “Teeth.”

Writing Process and Future Works

The band doesn't overthink the songs in the writing process, songs are written almost subconsciously. When working as a team, “there is anxiety in sending the songs sometimes because the others may not feel it.” However, Cigs works together and says, “It's never like Hey fuck this, it’s Hey let’s build this and make it ours,” Garret says. The band is mostly known for their upbeat Indie rock songs. However, this new release is soft and happy compared to previous work, it's also one of my recent favorites.

The band wants their fans to know that the one takeaway from this track is “You make the best parts out of the worst parts.” This track is for the romantics in the crowd. During their recent shows, Garrett and Sarah jump into the crowd and play "Huskies." An acoustic guitar and Sarah’s violin truly shine in the song. It makes the show an experience like no other. You will not leave a Cigs concert disappointed.

What can we expect from the band next? They are currently in the works of touring on their summer tour and recording their new album during downtime. We hope to hear more singles soon. Their next single was labeled Strong as Fuck. It is written on an acoustic guitar and is a “stomp and holler track.” Ethan hopes it makes you think of “Your Shawty.” Make sure to go check them out on their summer tour.
