Beneath the neon glow of Los Angeles’ skyline, a rumble grows, a prelude to the return of the titans. SLIPKNOT, the vanguard of heavy metal, and the shepherds of a cultural epoch are set to ignite the city with a second performance that speaks to their unparalleled legacy. The date is etched in the annals of rock: Saturday, September 14, at the Intuit Dome, where the echoes of the past meet the roars of the present.
The Here Comes The Pain Tour is more than a mere concert series. It celebrates a journey that began 25 years ago with an album that would redefine the genre. The demand for this auditory pilgrimage has been nothing short of extraordinary, prompting the release of tickets for the additional LA show on Friday, May 3, at 10 AM Local.
As the tour carves its path across North America, it promises to be a summer etched in metal lore. The itinerary includes a roll call of iconic venues, including New York City’s Madison Square Garden, the Intuit Dome for a double night’s siege, and the resonant halls of Austin’s Moody Center. SLIPKNOT leads the charge, with the fierce energy of Kentucky’s Knocked Loose and the support of Orbit Culture and Vended on select nights.
The genesis of SLIPKNOT’s saga was humble, rooted in the heartland of Des Moines. Their self-titled debut, released on June 29th, 1999, was not just an album but a clarion call to the disenchanted, a manifesto that would ignite a revolution. It was a masterclass in innovation, a departure from metal’s well-trodden paths, and a beacon for what was to come.
Reflecting on the early days, guitarist Jim Root shares, "We loved what we did with the first record but we didn’t even know if there was gonna be anything after that. We just wanted people to hear it. Selling out of records and shows, having successful tours– those are goals for any band. But the dream scenario in some ways, came true for us.”
The legacy of SLIPKNOT is one of relentless pursuit, a journey marked by billions of streams, legions of followers, and a collection of awards that includes a Grammy. Their influence extends beyond music, shaping the cultural landscape and fostering a community that spans generations.
The band’s vision gave rise to Knotfest in 2012, a festival that has since become a global phenomenon and spawned Knotfest.com, a platform for the avant-garde and the rebellious. These milestones are not just achievements but testaments to SLIPKNOT’s role as pioneers and provocateurs.
As they commemorate the 25th anniversary of their seminal work, SLIPKNOT seeks to bridge the gap between their origins and their evolution. Founding member Shawn “clown” Crahan reflects, "Every time I’ve walked on stage, it’s never been about how many people have been there because my culture, the maggots, always show up. But as we’ve grown as a band, we have had fewer and fewer of those intimate, personal moments, trading them for massive ones. So we’re gonna make it more personal on the anniversary, but how remains to be seen. Just get ready to have your face kicked in. Because we just do what we do, spread that maggot culture – that disease. And you’ve been infected.”
As the Here Comes The Pain Tour approaches, Los Angeles braces for the impact of SLIPKNOT’s return. This tour is not merely a series of performances; it is a testament to the band’s enduring spirit and their commitment to their fans. The stage is set, the players are ready, and the maggots are waiting. The pain is coming, and it promises to be an experience that will resonate through the ages.
