From Eilish to Jersey Streets: The Gaslight Anthem’s Musical Trek in ‘History Books – Short Stories’

Rich Mahogany Recordings and Thirty Tigers have teamed up to bring you a musical treasure: History Books – Short Stories, the latest EP from the legendary rock band The Gaslight Anthem. This four-track collection, produced by the acclaimed Butch Walker, is a testament to the band’s enduring creativity and their ability to weave nostalgia and innovation into their signature sound.

The Anthemic Take on Billie Eilish’s “Ocean Eyes”

At the heart of this EP lies a bold reinterpretation of Billie Eilish’s 3x RIAA Platinum-certified breakthrough single, Ocean Eyes. The Gaslight Anthem’s rendition infuses the track with their distinctive energy, turning it into an anthemic rock ballad. Lead vocalist Brian Fallon dives headfirst into the emotional depths of the song, making it their own while paying homage to Eilish’s original magic.

Revisiting Fan Favorites: “Blue Jeans & White T-Shirts”

The band’s longtime fans will rejoice at the revival of “Blue Jeans & White T-Shirts”. But this isn’t a mere rehash; it’s a fresh take on a beloved classic. Fallon explains, “We decided that it was time to update one of our very favorite songs. We had been messing with some of the location names to be more current.” Indeed, the streets of New Jersey have evolved, and The Gaslight Anthem reflects this in their lyrics. The real estate on Cookman Ave now boasts office buildings and condos for the very, very rich. But fear not—the spirit of the original still shines through, just with a contemporary twist.

Stripped-Down Acoustic Gems: “Positive Charge” and “History Books”

The EP also features stripped-down acoustic versions of two tracks: “Positive Charge” and “History Books”. These intimate renditions allow listeners to connect with the raw essence of the songs. Fallon shares, “After we finished recording the album, we had an idea to record some acoustic versions. It’s a way to peel back the layers and reveal the heart of our music.”

The “History Books Tour”: A Summer Adventure

As anticipation builds, The Gaslight Anthem announces their eagerly awaited North American summer headline tour. The “History Books Tour” kicks off on July 26 at Denver, CO’s Mission Ballroom and culminates in a grand finale at Detroit, MI’s The Fillmore Detroit on September 1. Joining them on this musical journey are Joyce Manor, along with The Dirty Nil (July 26-August 11) and Pinkshift (August 13-September 1) on select dates. Tickets are selling fast, so grab yours now at thegaslightanthem.com.

From Europe to Asbury Park: The Gaslight Anthem’s Global Odyssey

Currently, the band is crisscrossing Europe and the UK on an epic tour. Sold-out headline shows and top-billed festival appearances keep the adrenaline pumping. But they haven’t forgotten their roots. The Gaslight Anthem will return to their home state of New Jersey for a momentous performance at the Sea.Hear.Now Festival in Asbury Park on Sunday, September 15. Sharing the stage with icons like Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Trey Anastasio Band, and Norah Jones, they’ll remind us why New Jersey has always been a hotbed of musical brilliance.

“History Books”: A Chapter in The Gaslight Anthem’s Legacy

Finally, let’s talk about the album that started it all: “History Books”. Released in 2023, this sixth full-length album marked The Gaslight Anthem’s triumphant return after nearly a decade. The title track, featuring a duet between Fallon and fellow New Jerseyan Bruce Springsteen, tugs at heartstrings. Other standout singles like “Spider Bites”, “Autumn”, and “Little Fires” (featuring guest vocals from PUP frontman Stefan Babcock) complete the musical mosaic.
