On August 23, King Blue Heron released their newest single "ALLEGHENY RIVER" and when I sat down to listen to this song, it made me cry because, as I was reading the press release, I learned it's about a friend of Emily Hardenberger's (Vocals) that's in an active addiction. And I know how it feels to have someone you care about suffering from addiction; It's hard to let that relationship go, especially a friendship that you hold dear to yourself. I can't wait until I can listen to this song daily on Spotify and share it on social media because I know a few friends of mine can relate to the weight of the song. And sometimes you need to relate to a song to realize you're not the only one that goes through these things in life.
“Loving someone living with addiction is a specific kind of hell – ‘Allegheny River’ was written to try and grapple with that. The song started when my friendship with that person began to deteriorate, and it was finished when they moved out of my house and the relationship was over. The first half of the song is from their point of view, and the second half is from mine. It was over a year from the inception to the completion.” - Emily Hardenberger
