Restless Road, a country act signed to Kane Brown’s label was the first to hit the stage. They are comprised of Zach Beeken, Garrett Nichols, and Colton Pack. Although they only played for about 20 minutes it was a great start to what was about to be the most incredible evening.
Prior to the main act being announced, a few of the on-air talent paid tribute to Toby Keith. Keith recently passed away in February of stomach cancer. One of his most known songs is "Red Solo Cup" and, in true country fashion, red solo cups were raised and we toasted to his memory.
Following the emotional tribute to Keith, the moment we were all awaiting had finally arrived, the main act!
It was none other than Grammy, American Country Music Award, and CMT Music Award-winning Thomas Rhett. He alongside two backing vocalists and just their guitars took to the stage. An intimate acoustic show with Thomas Rhett was more than most country fans could ever dream of. Nothing to drown out his incredible voice, well maybe the 2000 people in attendance, however, it did not get much better than this!
He played many fan favorites, "Look What God Gave Her," "T-Shirt," "Make Me Wanna," "Half of Me," and "Life Changes," to name a few. In my opinion, the best part came when a fan in the audience between songs shouted out “Marry Me!” No this was not a proposal; it was a song request. He immediately obliged with a smile sat on his stool, tuned his guitar, and began to belt out the song. Only at a Secret Show would something like this happen. No script, no playlist, just everyone having a great time, including the artist.
The ability of KNIX to keep the main act a secret each time continues to astound. Bravo to the team at KNIX-FM Country in Arizona for keeping quality entertainment at the forefront of their operation. I cannot wait to see who they bring out at Secret Show #16.
