"You can't take anything I can't give back to myself," Laryssa sings in this electrifying new single, "Medusa," which hits all streaming platforms on August 9, 2024. Following the triumphant release of her hit "Joan of Arc," Birdseye takes us on a darker, more intense journey with "Medusa," blending haunting pop melodies with powerful lyrics that tell a gripping tale of revenge.
"Medusa" is not just another song—it's a defiant anthem for anyone who has faced violence and sought retribution. With Birdseye's signature fusion of upbeat electro-pop and soulful, introspective melodies, "Medusa" stands out as a raw and emotional masterpiece. The track dives into the myth of Medusa, transforming the ancient story into a modern-day narrative of a woman on a mission to hunt down the man who has wronged her.
Reflecting on her inspiration, Birdseye reveals, "The first line of 'Medusa' came to me after being drugged and raped 8 months ago. I felt like something had been taken from me that I couldn’t get back. But it popped into my head one day: ‘You can’t take anything I can’t give back to myself.’ 'Medusa' is a revenge fantasy song written in response and in defiance of someone who tried to take everything from me. It’s an anthem for women everywhere who have felt like their power has been ripped away from them, and it’s a cautionary message to those who would do it again. In a way, 'Medusa' is my reclamation of my body, my power, and my capacity to fight back."
Birdseye has never shied away from exploring her deepest emotions through her music. Her previous works, including the acclaimed album "Chrysalis" and the EP "Damages," showcase her talent for turning personal struggles into powerful, resonant art. Tracks like "Shame" from 2021 highlight her ability to blend profound, honest lyrics with infectious beats that make you want to move.
