Mac Sabbath slides into El Paso, TX

Writer's picture: Alan HigginsAlan Higgins

At the Lowbrow Palace in El Paso, TX, a countdown became on stage announcing the launch of the weirdest and most entertaining night any three music groups could put together. At no time was I ever prepared for what the night would bring to the stage. From Spaceman Bob to Tejon Street Corner Thieves, it could only build to be the openers for the zany and powerful message of Mac Sabbath

Spaceman Bob

Spaceman Bob, the out of orbit energy created from his hard techno fueled aggressive rap. Spaceman Bob and his drummer Spaceman Chase explain in song how they traveled across the universe and have developed a space utopia. The high energy beat and lyrics made you want to go on a journey with them, even if you didn't know where you were going or if you would come back. From the first song, “I am Spaceman Bob,” clearly, he was in control of the audiences, they explained how Kohl cash was their interstellar currency in the song, “Kohl’s Cash.” He took us on quest to remind us never to stop doing what you want to do, no matter what people say about it. The song “Punch the Clock” got everyone worked up and jumping as we punched the air. When it was all done, we stood in silence as we absorbed what had just happened, the journey with Spaceman Bob was over.

To hear more of Spaceman Bob and to buy his merch you can visit these sites and follow him.

Tejon Street Corner Thieves

These guys from Colorado Springs, Colorado, with their banjo, guitar and stand-up bass want you to party and party hard as they drink and tell you stories with their infectious outlaw, rebellious spirit that can be descripted as Trashgrass, for any other better word. These boys drink and expect you to drink with them in-between and sometimes during a song. This foot stomping electric bluegrass sound makes you just want to get wild and crazy. At one-point the band convinced the crowd to do a mosh/circle pit during the song “You Rascal You.” They took a classic folk song, “Wayfaring Stranger” and made you feel for the stranger. They also did a song called “Greasy Coat,” I will let you look up the lyrics to this fun little song. They ended their set with, “Whiskey”

These guys were very entertaining and had your foot stomping with each song. Look them up at the following links.

Mac Sabbath

Mac Sabbath a basement band grown out of the fast-food business, their decidedly satirical and condemnatory perspective on the fast-food industry, addressing things like fast food's negative health effects and lack of nutritional value as well as GMO products I cannot even call foodconsumerism, and low wages. At one point, Ronald Osbourne, the lead singer, is swinging around fake chickens and throwing them on the grill in front of the stage, smoke billows out of the orange glow. Welding two spatulas, swing them around like Ginsu knives, if he didn't think you were watching he would grab ketchup and mustard bottles and squeeze them into the audience.

Guitarist Slayer MacCheeze has a Cheeseburger head with two huge horns poking out, shows his true skills at guitar, shredding, cranking out one hit after another of Black Sabbath melodies. While bassist Grimalice, a large purple drink container, drops bass beat that would make any novices Black Sabbath cover band bassist run crying to their mommy. The drummer Catburglar made you feel like you were listening to a Black Sabbath live concert. These characters are all well-seasoned veterans in the music business.  The stage was alive with these oversized folks bring the non-GMO message to the stage in classic Black Sabbath style. The antics keep getting better as the night went on as they performed parodies with titles that includes such songs as "Pair-a-Buns" ("Paranoid"), "Frying Pan" ("Iron Man"), "Sweet Beef" ("Sweet Leaf"), "Never Say Diet" ("Never Say Die"). These guys are pure genius, it is hard to imagine they have been around for 10 years and this is the first I had ever heard of Mac Sabbath

You got to go see these guys in action, watching a video doesn't do them justice, I was blown away with the skill, antics, and the fun lyrics they have put together, check out these links and see for yourself but if they come to your town see them.
