Memphis May Fire (MMF) dropped another single titled Necessary Evil just two weeks ago and it’s a good one. I’ve always been a fan of this band and I love their songs with messages behind their lyrics. Lyrics are just as important to the song as any other aspect because it tells a story. Do I think some songs are more relatable than they should be allowed to be? Absolutely. But, that’s what makes it so good. Do I like a song sometimes simply because it’s fun and catchy? For sure. There’s no reason every song has to be super meaningful to your life to enjoy it. Music is a gift and it speaks to people in ways that other things may not. For me, I also love it when a bass drops and I can feel that BOOM in my chest.
Anyways, I’m getting sidetracked, back to MMF. Lead vocalist, Matty Mullins shared that this song is about acknowledging pain and hardships as part of the human journey and finding the strength in these moments of adversity to understand it shapes us into the person we are. Deep. Man, that is something that my younger self would have loved to have been told for advice growing up. Knowing that alone and looking at the lyrics to this song hits hard. Again, I feel called out haha.
My favorite line in this song is, “You can die from doom and gloom’n, or embrace the grave and learn to use it,” honestly, I think these words really emphasize the whole meaning behind this song. You can either fall down from the fight or you can let it help you grow. We all deal with ups and downs in life, don’t let the demons win. Don’t let them take you. Nothing is ever easy and I definitely know from personal experiences, I would absolutely not be the same person that I am today if not for all the hard parts that life threw at me. I know that my life is better from them even if in the moments they sucked. In which case, when life sucks, blare the volume on songs like this and scream along. You’re allowed to scream and fight. So blast your speakers to Necessary Evil and let them know you aren’t going down that easy.
If you want to try to hear this song or any other MMF song live, catch them on the road this fall. Starting September 24, they’ll be back on the road opening for Asking Alexandria. So get those tickets while you can. Until then, enjoy Necessary Evil which is out on all streaming platforms right now!
