On Friday the 12th of July I got to experience my first concert with Mother Mother at Michigan Lottery Amphitheater and this was my experience.
Fans lined up waiting for doors to open and dressed to the tens maybe even twenties, Meet Me @ The Altar was the first band to perform in the hot sun but that stopped no one from having a great time. Fans cheered waving their pride flags as the band played some popular songs practically floating across the stage, Edith left her heart and soul with that set with the other band members playing alongside flawlessly.
Cavetown was next with one of the most unique stage setups I’ve ever seen with huge blowup mushrooms as a background. Their sound matched the stage presence perfectly and so did the crowd’s energy. Each song flows to the next almost giving a fairy cottage-like experience to the show, making it all feel as if it was a dream.
Mother Mother came with the heat opening the show with such a powerful AI-like intro. Mike came out first, making fans lose their minds with the rest of the band following suit reminding me that some fans may have waited years to see their favorite band and it finally coming to reality for them. They all moved around the stage with such a strong stage presence playing songs like “Hayloft“ with a light show that really was a showcase in itself for the entire set, making the photos really pop and making them speak for themselves with the choice of black and white capturing the emotion you could only feel if you were there experiencing it for yourself first hand. This show was so welcoming and brought so many different perspectives and emotions with one single purpose; Community.
Coming together experiencing the same things and forgetting all the bad for just a few short hours of happiness is something you only can enjoy when the artist or band means it and is passionate about what they do. All three of these bands do mean it, and give that energy every single performance. If you have not seen any of these bands live I highly recommend you do.
