On August 23, 2024, Crown The Empire headlined at The Masquerade in Atlanta, GA, on their "Not Dead Yet" tour with special guests Oni, Capstan, and Dark Divine! Drove five hours once again to this notorious venue that I've gone to at least 20 times since 2023 for shows! Best venue for shows and Crown The Empire brought that energy I needed! The playlist the venue was playing before and after bands performed was top tier especially when they played "Everytime We Touch;" it felt like a rave!
Opening the night was Oni and I personally never listened to this band before. Like I always do when I don't know a band, I don't listen to them at all because I'd rather listen to them live before I hop on Spotify. Oni is a progressive metal band that formed in 2014 in Canada by Jake Oni and now consists of Jared Dines (Guitar), Julian Gargiulo (Guitar/Back Vocals), Nick Villarreal (Bass), and Dylan Roy (Drums). Their set set the tone for the rest of the night. They kind of remind me of Killswitch Engage a little bit which automatically caused me to like them. I didn't know any songs by them, so I focused more on the crowd and talking to people after their set! A couple told me that they traveled from South Carolina to come see them at this venue because The Masquerade is where their husband proposed! Which was so cute!
Next up was Capstan! I saw this band in South Carolina and their performance blew me away. When I saw them at The New Brookland Tavern, their energy was UNMATCHED. So I knew seeing them on this tour was going to even be more mind blowing especially performing at the Heaven portion of the venue. I knew it was going to be insane.
Lets talk about the band! Capstan formed in 2012 from Orlando, Florida, consisting of Anthony DeMario (Vocals), Harrison Bormann (Guitar), Andrew Bozymowski (Bass/Vocals), Scott Fisher (Drums), and Joseph Mabry (Guitar). I haven't really listened to their music, but their live performances are always top tier. Mabry and DeMario are constantly interesting to watch because they go insane on stage. I'm surprised DeMario hasn't pulled any muscles in his neck head banging to every song on stage. During their set as I was walking around the venue to get crowd shots, I saw this little girl no more than 7 years old on her moms shoulders rocking out to the band. I love seeing kids enjoying the same music as I do and watching parents relishing in their children having a good time.
It was time for Dark Divine and I love this band because my whole personality is Halloween. And basically anything spooky. I saw this band when they were on Until I Wake's tour which was like almost two years I believe. Dark Divine currently is signed to Thriller Records and has been on tour constantly with bands such as Black Veil Brides, The Word Alive, and Limbs. There are so many bands coming from the Florida scene and it makes me want to move there for that reason. The band consists of Anthony Martinez (Vocals), Robby Lynch (Guitar), and Triston Blaze (Drums). I was so excited when they stepped onto the stage because I was able to finally photograph one of my favorite spooky bands. Dark Divine performed songs such as "Digital Numb," "Dancing Dead," and "Paper Crown." They currently have almost about 200,000 Spotify listeners with "Burn The Witch" being the most popular song!
Dark Divines performance was by far one of my favorite sets ever since I started photography. Between Anthony and Robby engaging with the photographers, the lights, and everything else in between, Dark Divine had the best set of the night. I had zero complaints and I would see them again in a heartbeat. Who doesn't love spooky musicians?
Crown The Empire was finally up! I recently saw them twice on the Set It Off tour and I don't think anyone can match the excessive energy the vocalist has. I don't think this man knows how to stand still. Every time I see this band, they never disappoint. It's so hard to get photos of them though because they are so energetic. Crown The Empire formed in 2010 consisting of Andrew Rockhold (Lead vocals), Brandon Hoover (Guitar/Back vocals), Hayden Tree (Bass), and Jeeves Avalos (Drums). The attendees at the barricade went wild when they went on stage and I got hit several times in the pit by people head banging so hard.
Crown The Empire performed songs such as "The Fallout," "DOGMA," "In Another Life," and so many more! I haven't really listened to their music that much, but I'd rather watch them perform these songs live then listen to the songs in the car. I learned in the last few months that live performances are better than listening to the studio version of the songs. Their light production during their set was something I haven't seen yet because the amount of different colors they had all at once that were flashing blew my mind. Made it difficult for my camera to focus, but at the same time I'd rather watch the set and enjoy it besides being glued to the camera! It was very difficult to see the drummer in the back as well due to how dark it was at times, but I know Jeeves was doing an awesome job because all drummers do. I talked to one of the attendees during the set and they stated that they been following the tour for several dates. I love when fans love a band that much that they would follow them to several dates; I would do that for Miss May I any day.
