Iconic British musician PJ Harvey has teamed up with acclaimed actor Ruth Wilson and Oscar-nominated Irish direction Colm Bairéad for the visually stunning new video for her latest single, "Seem an I." The video, shot at the serene Kennel farm in Wiltshire, captures the haunting and hypnotic essence of the track, offering fans a visual experience as evocative as Harvey's music.
The collaboration between Harvey and Wilson comes as no surprise to those familiar with their previous work together on Clio Barnard's film Dar River. Speaking on the collaboration, PJ Harvey expressed her admiration for Wilson, saying, "Ruth and I became friends after working together on Dark River. I have always greatly admired Ruth's work as an actor, so had long harbored a dream that we might work together again in some way."
When the opportunity arose to work with Colm Bairéad, a director both Harvey and Wilson hold in high regard, the collaboration felt like a natural fit. Harvey added, "I find the resulting short film beautiful and moving for having Ruth's magical presence, and Colm's unique vision."
Ruth Wilson, also known for her roles in His Dark Materials, The Affair, and Luther, shared her excitement about the project: "I have always been a huge fan of PJ, so it was a great privilege to work alongside Colm and Polly to bring 'Seem an I' to visual life in this mysterious and hypnotic short film. There is no better way to spend a day than in the magical world of PJ Harvey."
To coincide with the video's release, PJ Harvey has announced an upcoming North American tour this autumn, marking her first tour in the region in seven years. The 16-date run will kick off on September 11 at The Anthem in Washington, DC, and conclude on October 14 at The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. The tour follows a summer of festival appearances across the U.K. and Europe, including a headline show at London's Gunnerbury Park this past weekend.
Fans can expect a full live performance of Harvey's Grammy-nominated tenth studio album, I Inside the Old Year Dying, co-produced by long-time collaborators John Parish and Flood. The tour will also feature songs from her extensive back catalog, promising an unforgettable live experience.
For this tour, PJ Harvey has brought together a stellar team of creatives to enhance the live experience. Working with theatre director Ian Rickson, set designer Rae Smith, lighting designers Paule Constable and Louisa Smurthwaite, and fashion designer Todd Lynn, Harvey has crafted a show that promises to be as visually captivating as it is musically powerful.
