Rain City Drive is coming out with a new album on September 27 and today they just dropped one last sneak peek. The single is named Concrete Closure. As a fan of this band, I instantly fell in love with it. The lyrics, the overall production, the drums, everything flows so well. My cat, who I’m pretty convinced hates all music, actually came running when I turned it on and vibed. He vibed to it. Rain City Drive, my cat’s a fan of your music haha.
Anyways, back to the single. In the press release, lead vocalist Matt discusses how this song is about a post breakup where one of them needs some closure so they keep trying to stay a part of their life even after it’s obvious that it’s over. Honestly, that kind of hits home for me, but in the opposite way. Break-ups are messy. A previous toxic relationship of mine, I definitely would have liked answers for a concrete closure but of course, once I finally accepted it, for a while, it felt like he kept trying to stay up to date with me. Months later, even years later, I had random texts on my phone from him trying to “check in” when it was like, no. Go away. Take the hint. This only started to happen once I accepted that we were over and tried to move on in my life.
The lyrics just fit so well and I’m sure a lot of people will find relations to the words. The way he sings “holding your heart of stone” is like dayum. I’m going to have this song on repeat until I get sick of it. It’s almost even hard to really put into words how this song makes me feel. I’ve had my own closure on the door from that past but this song feels like the one I needed then but it is totally perfect for now. I’ve moved on so far and the rage in these lyrics are just, ugh, perfect.
I especially love the pre-chorus line, “there’s nothing to explain, what’s standing in the way,” because it really speaks volumes to the whole song in my opinion. What’s done is done, move on, goodbye. I cannot wait to hear the entire album.
This track along with four others will be featured on the new album coming out in just a few weeks. Not to mention their tour will kick off the night before with Belmont & Until I Wake and you should get tickets. After that they’ll go on a EU/U.K. tour in support of Dayseeker.
Until any of that happens, Concrete Closure is available on all streaming platforms!
