Alestorm finished out the Tour of the Dead Marauder in Nashville, Tennessee, on April 21 with support from Glyph and Elvenking.
Glyph is an intergalactic power metal band that is relatively new to the scene, only forming in 2023, but 100% kicks dragon behind! Consisting of R.A. Voltaire on vocals, Rob Steinway on guitar, Darin Wall on bass, Jeff Black on keytar, and Ryan Yancey on drums.
Glyph is one of those bands where you must play the popular theatre class game "Yes, and?" The band comes from space but also fights dragons. Hell, the band's most popular merch design has "F*#K DRAGONS" scrawled across the front of the shirt. I have a love like no other for bands that have silly concepts. Any band that has a keytar is an immediate A-Lister in my book.
Every song they perform is filled with epic melodies, powerful vocals, and stank-face-inducing guitar solos that showcase their immense talent. The lead singer's vocal range is impressive and he has a unique and captivating voice that sets them apart from other power metal bands in the genre.
From songs about seeking glory and hating dragons. I think this band has a little for every power metal fan. I find it refreshing to listen to power metal that isn't overt about religion. Glyph put on an incredibly wonderful show and I can't wait for them to return.
Overall, Glyph is a band that deserves recognition in the power metal scene. I can't wait to hear more from them and see where their incredible talent takes them in the future. If you're a power metal fan, do yourself a favor and check out Glyph!

Elvenking is an elf power metal band formed in October 1997 in Sacile, Italy. You read that right, ELF METAL! They combine their love of metal and folklore in a beautifully interesting way. The band's lineup has gone through several changes over the years, with singer Damnagoras being the only original member remaining. Consisting of, Davide "Damnagoras" Moras on vocals, Federico "Aydan" Baston and Mattia "Headmatt" Carli on guitars, Alessandro "Jakob" Jacobi on bass, Simone "Symohn" Morettin on drums and Fabio "Lethien" Polo on violin.
I wasn't sure what to expect with a name like Elvenking until the singer made his way onto the stage, with a giant set of horns. My immediate thought was Sylvannas from World of Warcraft and Alice Cooper. What a cool look! The entire band dawned facepaint, resembling elven war paint.
The band combines elements of folk and melodic metal with traditional power metal, creating a unique and distinctive sound. Elvenking's lyrics often draw inspiration from fantasy themes, mythology, and folklore.
About halfway through their set, members of Glyph and Alestorm made their way onto the stage and pretended to "hunt" the band with plastic bows and arrows. The band also brought signs with various misspellings of Elvenking and a pizza that was promptly thrown at the band and members of the audience. It got a good laugh out of myself and fellow photographer Kim Cilluffo of Rockwell Unscene.
Elvenking's distinct sound and look are definitely one for the books. If you're a fan of power metal, I recommend checking them out!
I wandered off to get some fresh air between sets, taking in the chilly night breeze, the venue began to shake with the crowd chanting "DUCK! DUCK! DUCK!" Imagine my surprise when I walked back into the venue and was greeted with the stage being taken up by a giant inflatable duck and his two smaller brothers on stage.
Alestorm is a Scottish power metal band formed in 2004 in Perth, Scotland. They are known for their pirate-themed lyrics and use of folk instruments such as the accordion and tin whistle in their music. The band's music is a blend of power metal and folk metal, with catchy melodies and sing-along choruses. Their lyrics often revolve around pirates, drinking, raunchy escapades, and adventure on the high seas.
The band's current lineup consists of Christopher Bowes (Captain Chris) on lead vocals and keytar, Gareth Murdock on bass, Peter Alcorn on drums, Elliot Vernon on keyboard, and Máté Bodor on guitar.
Alestorm took the stage by storm, immediately ripping into their first song "Keelhauled" Alestorm was an absolutely wild and fun experience. The energy of the band members was infectious, and they had the crowd jumping and dancing the entire time.
Elvenking and Glyph exacted their revenge for the shenanigans that Alestorm brought upon them by helping slay the shark that came to terrorize Alestorm. After slaying the shark, it was thrown into the audience and used as a marker for the circle pit for the remainder of the show.
This tour was to support Alestorm's newest album, "Voyage of the Dead Marauder". Barbara Blackthorne from Empress came to sing along to the title track with the band. What a set of pipes! Other special guests of the night included... another shark. It also happened to be Elliot's birthday! Captain Chris promised him a night out on Broadway and one of the audio techs even brought him a little cake. How sweet!
Fans went crazy as the band began their encore, including "Zombies Ate My Pirate Ship" and my personal favorite (that may have also been my song to de-stress to after work) "F$(#&@D With an Anchor".
Alestorm put on a memorable show and finished out the tour with a bang. If you haven't had the chance to see Alestorm, I highly recommend going to a show, even if you don't listen to them. They're a whole lot of fun!
