Acclaimed singer-songwriter and producer Sam MacPherson has launched a new musical chapter with the release of two emotionally charged singles, "August Always" and "I'm Not From Anywhere Else." Both tracks, now available on all streaming platforms, offer a fresh glimpse into MacPherson's evolving artistry and provide insight into his roots with his New Jersey upbringing taking center stage in his storytelling.

MacPherson, known for his poetic songwriting and deeply personal lyricism, continues to build on his reputation with these two singles. Reflecting on the creation of "August Always," Sam shared, "I was at this funeral last August when I heard, felt, or thought the words ‘August Always.’ I’d never experienced something coming into my head from outside of my body like that. My middle name is August. All of these things sent me down a rabbit hole of chasing what it all meant to me—where I was in life, where I desired to be, and what I’ve done and haven’t done. I was facing myself for the first time in a long time.” The track encapsulates the feeling of being tied to a specific moment in time and place, particularly his home state of New Jersey.

Meanwhile, "I'm Not From Anywhere Else" serves as a bold statement of self-acceptances. MacPherson explains, “The song is a line in the sand. I’m accepting who I am, acknowledging where I’m from, paying homage to the family that raised me, and documenting it as a reminder and a trophy.” This anthem solidifies his pride in his hometown of Red Bank, NJ, emphasizing that his roots are integral to his identity.

These dual releases continue MacPherson's journey of blending personal introspection with universal themes, a skill that has defined his musical career since his independent releases in 2020. Tracks like "Routine," "Forget I Exist," "Crash Course," and the viral sensation "Last Minute" earned him recognition across streaming platforms and social media, culminating in nearly 120 million streams for "Last Minute" alone. After signing with Elektra Records, his 2023 Powerlines EP further soldified his place as one to watch, with critics praising his "deeply poetic songwriting" and noting his potential for stardom.

Sam's career also extends beyond his solo work. His songwriting talents have attracted collaborations with artists like Stephen Sanchez, Jonah Kagen, and Garrett Nash, as well as co-writing credits for songs by Quinn Lewis, VINCINT, and ROSIE. His new singles, however, mark a deeply personal chapter, exploring his complex relationship with his hometown and his path towards self-acceptance.

"August Always" and "I'm Not From Anywhere Else," come on the heels of his earlier 2024 release, "I Don't Wanna See You Try," a track that delves into the frustration and emotional turmoil of trying to help someone who seems lost. Praised for its emotional depth by outlets such as Entertainment Tonight and Ones To Watch, the song highlights MacPherson's ability to craft music that resonates on a personal and emotional level.

Sam MacPherson's return with these two singles signals a raw new era in his career, one marked by a deeper exploration of his personal identity and his connection to his New Jersey roots. As he continues to evolve, fans and new listeners alike can expect more reflective and thought-provoking music from this rising artist.
