Megadeth, the legendary creator of Thrash Rock, has brought rock and roll to the public for over 40 years. This month they hit the road for the Destroy All Enemies tour. Their third stop was Albuquerque, NM. With the opening acts of All That Remains and Mudvayne, the sky looked stormy, and the wind blew through the amphitheater, but the real storm was on the stage.
All That Remains
All that Remains hit the stage all dressed in black, opening the show with “Now Let Them Tremble.” They also performed “Divine” that was released in the spring of 2024 giving us a future look into their next album still in the works. Then they debut a new song at the concert recently released, “No Tomorrow.”
Labelled as a melodic metalcore band, All That Remains brings a little bit of everything that is the meaning behind Modern American heavy metal. They have the heavy guitar riffs, killer bass notes, and rumbling drumbeats with lead singer, Phil Labonte's, lyrics focusing on issues like relationships, personal struggles, society, and hope.
Since 1998, Labonte has brought us a continuous American Metalcore sound, and it looks like there is no chance that is going to change, with eight albums under their belt, I see another new album to be released this coming year. They are worth a follow at one of the following links.
Mudvayne
Mudvayne hit the stage in masks, face and body paint, with high energy behind all that costuming. They had the crowd on their feet jumping and screaming. They opened their performance with “Dig” and immediately rolled into their next single “Under My Skin” from their debut album L.D. 50 (2000). Looking around the crowd many were wearing makeup similar or influenced by Mudvayne's current style. They sing along with every song.
Chad Gray and Mathew McDonough voices and drumming, along with Greg Tribbett and tour guitarist Marcus Rafferty, bring the Mudvayne sound alive while Ryan Martinie jumps around the stage entertaining us with his amazing ripping skills and his animated expression and poses. The band was very fun to listen to and watch, their music style has been hard to describe, almost a progressive nu alternative heavy metal band, you chose the category. I say they are an absolutely dynamic metal band. If they were performing in any venue I would be there.

Megadeth
Megadeth; one of the most popular and pioneers of American Thrash Metal. Dave Mustaine, recently let go by Metallica, ran across a guy named David Ellefson and they grabbed Greg Handevidt and Dijon Carruthers, forming what later became the most famous and influenced heavy metal band that made thrash metal a music genre that has lived on for 40 years, that's Megadeth.
Monday night as the crowd waited, they held off a few minutes before coming on stage, the crowd started chanting and cheering, the lights came up and the guitarist and bassist came on stage followed by Dave Mustaine. The wind picked up and the crowd went crazy as the band played, “The Sick, the Dying...and the Dead!” They were just getting warmed up as they rolled into one song after another, with songs like “Dread and Fugitive Mind” and “Angry Again” and also performed, for the first time during the tour, “Conjuring.”
Once again Megadeth did not disappoint the fans in New Mexico, it was hard to even imagine Dave Mustaine is 62 years old. He is not looking for retirement, he is looking to see how much higher he can get. This tour has turned out pretty good for the band, they are already showing sold-out shows in various cities on the tour schedule. All the years I went to concerts and heard bands out there, I had listened to Megadeth on albums and the radio, but it is a whole different experience when listening and photographing them from the photo pit.
