As summer slowly comes to an end and we wave goodbye to festival season, the autumn/winter tours that we’ve been waiting for are finally here to take the U.K. by storm and kicking us off this foggy September evening is the one and only, The Plot in You. Bringing along an absolute stellar lineup which resulted in multiple venue upgrades, the legends that are Invent Animate and Acres join the lads on this mega U.K. run.
First up on the stage tonight are UK’s own, Acres. I’ve been lucky enough to see these guys once before and they smashed it so I had high expectations tonight - let’s just say, these guys excelled like never before. Their performances are always top class with every single element perfectly executed in Acres’ signature style. From the range in vocals to the heavy yet melodic guitar riffs, these guys have it all covered.
Lead singer, Ben Lumber, is a perfect frontman for a band such as themselves, commanding the stage with ease and getting the crowd hyped and ready for the night to come. Their set was short but sweet and will certainly continue to get the attention they deserve.
Up next are Texas metalcore titans, Invent Animate. Now these guys, when they were announced at support for this monster of a tour, almost the entire run immediately sold out. Not only are we being treated to TPIY tonight but Invent Animate are an absolute treat to the ears and boy, what a show they put on.
Kicking it off with Sleepless Deathbed and a gorgeous array of lights, the place erupted. The energy, the atmosphere, everything was spot on; jarring guitar riffs, hardcore-infused vocals, fans that knew every word - what more do you need? To top it off, I have to say, the outfit coordination is well and truly on point. The lads look unreal, the vibe; ethereal. Otherworldly.
Invent’s music is so expansive, one minute you’re singing your heart out and the next you’re smashing in someone’s face in the mosh pit and if you ask me, that’s the perfect gig. "False Meridian" is one of my all-time favs and well, let’s just say, it was even better live in the flesh. Wow. The brutal, raw vocals have quite the chokehold on me tonight as I could only stand and watch in awe; these guys have this beyond-stellar performance nailed to a T. I cannot wait to see them again.
Finally, the time has come for Ohio metal heads, The Plot in You, to tear Leeds apart. So fasten your seatbelts, this is gonna be one hell of a metalhead ride.
As a huge white sheet covers the stage ready to drop upon a moment's notice, the lights suddenly go dark and the room becomes coated in this thick red lighting. The raw, primal screams of Landon Tewers began to echo around us, immediately captivating the audience as the curtain drops on beat and multi-coloured confetti rains down on the sea of fans. This is, "Don’t Look Away." I could barely contain my excitement as I’ve been waiting to see these guys for absolutely ages and I think it’s safe to say, even I was singing and moshing my heart out tonight. Having the chance to be able to hear some of my favourite songs live is so special and something I wish I could bottle and take home with me.
"Divide," "Face Me," and "Crows" are just some of the bangers that were on the perfectly curated setlist tonight and I can easily say, I’ve never heard a crowd sing so loud. Bodies were flying everywhere as crowd surfers filled the room; it was such a beautiful thing to experience. TPIY had the whole entire room bouncing with every beat - these guys were 100% meant for the stage; their admirable musicianship and the way they can control the room is amazing to watch.
"Forgotten" is up next and well, all I can say is those screams gave me goosebumps. I love this song and I now love it even more. The room erupted into one giant mosh pit as hands and feet flew in all directions. "Enemy," "Closure," and "Left Behind" are some of the last few on the setlist tonight as we quickly approach the highly anticipated encore. I think almost every single fan here tonight came here just to hear this one song live because well, this song is absolutely one of the best songs that TPIY have made.
The room is covered once again by an explosion of confetti as the band break into "DISPOSABLE FIX" and the star of the night, "FEEL NOTHING." Absolutely incredible and left me speechless wanting more. We need more. After having listened to them for years, I was more than ready to experience TPIY live and I truly loved every moment of it. Here’s to hoping they come back soon!
