His Stage Name Came from the 80’s Horror Film “Gremlins”
The mastermind behind Bright Light Bright Light, Rod Thomas takes the majority of his inspiration from the ‘70s and ’80s culture. With his music having an almost disco and house-like sound, and his use of bold bright colors in his album covers with extravagant animations it is no surprise that his stage name, Bright Light Bright Light, was also culled from the 80s. The name is a reference to the film “Gremlins” infamous creatures being stunned by bright lights.

The story kicks off with Rod Thomas and his friend sneaking out to enjoy the thrilling nightlife of Paris, France when they get caught unexpectedly by the Grandmother of the household. The two expected to get scolded for sneaking out, but she just simply laughed before giving them two powerful words that would stick with them even beyond the night “Enjoy Youth!” The words are a simple reminder to embrace the love, light, and excitement that comes with your youth, while also always keeping your Youthful Spirit. This is portrayed throughout the album, serving as a constant reminder to “Enjoy Youth!”

His music has touched the life of vastly different audiences after touring with big names such as Cher, and Ellie Goulding.
